Alright, we're off! While people start to join in, I guess AJ and I can talk about the Associated Press power polls that were released today.
I think in AA there's a definitive 1 and 2 between Bozeman and Capital. But do you think there's much difference there?
To me, Bozeman is the No. 1 team. The Hawks basically had the state championship won last year if not for a miracle comeback by Butte. They're loaded offensively, and the defense is pretty stout, too.
I think we'll learn a lot about Bozeman when Kalispell Glacier visits this Friday. That should be a good matchup between two 2-0 teams.
Probably the marquee game of the week in AA. Not a lot of love for Glacier preseason but the Wolfpack got in the voters heads after just two weeks.
Any time you beat West and CMR in back-to-back weeks, people are going to notice. Especially, when the defense plays as well as it has.
Talk about a crazy game in Week 2. That CMR/Glacier game lasted until about 1:15 in the morning. Every covered a game like that Slim?
Haha. I have not ever covered anything like that, and I'm glad I wasn't up there in Great Falls. I followed along on Twitter after I got my stuff done at the office. What a crazy night last Friday was!
Not only did we have that game go until after 1:00 a.m., we had games canceled and postponed. One (Havre and Miles City) even ended in a tie!
Sadly that Loyola/Fairfield game went by the wayside. Would have loved to see those teams square off early in the season.
Yeah. I was probably most looking forward to the Loyola-Fairfield game last weekend. What do you think of the Class B rankings this week?
Are there any questions or comments from fans out there?
First off, hard to rank a team that hasn't played a game at the top ahead of team's that have won 2. So I didn't have Loyola (0-0) up there
Huntley and Glasgow are my top 2 right now, though Fairfield and Loyola could change that if they play like they're supposed to this week.
Valid point. I used a lot of my preseason rankings when voting, especially in the lower classes. I did put Loyola No. 1 and believe the Rams will justify that pick this week.
They certainly could. But for me, couldn't put a 0-0 team at the top.
I'm not completely buying into Huntley Project yet. Yes, beating Malta is always nice. But I have my concerns about them, too.
Probably my favorite story this football season comes out of Huntley. What that Koni Dole kid has been able to do blows my mind.
Probably?? Come on! That's easily the best high school sports story this state has seen in a long time. Phenomenal kid. Incredible story.
A win at Red Lodge this week will help, so would a win against Colstrip the following week. But if they beat Baker on September 27, then I'll buy Huntley Project as a top three team.
Hey, 1B Fan, good to see you! Remember you from the good ole days on the GPS blog.
I haven't seen Dillon or Laurel play yet, but Dillon made a pretty loud statement last weekend. The Beavers still have some really talented players, so I think they'll come to this side of the state and get the W.
You bring any of your friends to the chat? Bleeds, Blue by You, any of those guys?
Haven't seen Dillon yet either but a win on the road at Polson is a huge start to their season. Not like it gets easier either. At Laurel before Billings Central at home.
What does Polson have this year, AJ? I saw the coaches liked them in your guys' preseason polls.
True, but preseason polls are often swayed by past seasons. Polson is largely inexperienced. Only 4 starters back on offense and 3 on defense. They were hit very hard by graduation.
They'll see their bit of struggles early on but you can't count out a Coach Wilson led program up there.
Central is kind of re-tooling this year. They had a bunch of seniors on last year's team, and they're pretty young this year. That being said, Holden Ryan (he scored four TDs against Belgrade but fumbled a couple tiems) is a stud. He's probably a D-I player. And they're really athletic.
So Polson is rebuilding, huh? What do you know about Columbia Falls and Whitefish?
I've heard that, too, 1B Fan. Time will tell I suppose. I was surprised by the Townsend-Florence score.
And, yeah, that's a real bummer that game was canceled. Long drive to not play.
Whitefish looks much the same as last year, but with experience. QB Luke May was a stud last year as a freshman and he's back.
I don't know a ton about CFalls yet. Just what I've heard and seen in the polls
I think Bozeman has a good shot at that title, especially in AA. Two big wins and dealing with some injuries along the way.
Most impressive team after two weeks, huh? Hard to say, AA is the only class where every team has played two games. I think Glacier has been most impressive there.
We're just about to get started with the prep football chat. We have AJ Mazzolini of the Missoulian and Slim Kimmel of the Billings Gazette on hand to discuss the season so far. If you have questions, fire them in!
