Osmond delivers solid skate, but Russia leads Canada by 5 points in team event

SOCHI, Russia - Kaetlyn Osmond delivered a solid performance in the women's short, but Russia opened up a five-point lead over Canada in the team figure skating event.

Osmond, from Marystown, N.L., skated first and was poised in her Olympic debut, delivering a mistake-free performance that scored 62.54 points.

She finished fifth, giving Canada's team six points.

But Russia's Yulia Lipnitskaya was the skater to beat, giving Russia 10 points with an impressive skate that scored 72.90 from the judges.

Russia has a daunting 37 out of a possible 40 points after four events, with Canada second at 32 and the United States third at 27.

The pairs long program concludes the second day of team competition.

Mogul: So far, the only mogul skier to qualify for the medal round is Hannah Kearney, who scored a 21.93. Just behind is Australia's Britteny Cox (21.59). Coming up soon is Team USA's Eliza Outtrim.

Canada's Justine Dufour-Lapointe with an impressive 22.44 to take the lead. Dufour-Lapointe now is a lock to win a medal, with two more skiers coming up.

Well ..... your talking to Liz Manley who lost to Katarina Witt !!! lol just kidding. The new judging system has helped the corruption tremendously as it really details points to all the elements and executions the skaters are doing. Its become a very fair sport now
